Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii has restructured his administration by placing one County Executive Committee (CEC) member, seven Chief Officers, and his Chief of Staff on a one-month compulsory leave.
He reshuffled the cabinet because he wanted a more effective and accountable government. First he reviewed the county’s half-year performance and saw the need for major changes.
As a result, therefore, he decided to reorganize his administration. Moreover, he aimed to improve service delivery and ensure staff appraisals were conducted thoroughly.
Because of this, he sent one County Executive Committee (CEC) member, seven Chief Officers, and his Chief of Staff on a one-month compulsory leave.
In an official notice to the media, Governor Jonathan Bii announced that he retained six CECs in their current roles while making three key changes.
Notably, Dr. Janet Kosgei, the Lands and Physical Planning CEC who was arrested in December 2024 for allegedly receiving bribes at the county headquarters, was placed on compulsory leave.
Furthermore, the governor emphasized that these changes were necessary to strengthen governance and improve service delivery.
Compulsory leave
Additionally, several Chief Officers were affected by the reshuffle. Those sent on compulsory leave include
- Mary Kerich (Environment, Energy, and Climate Change),
- Abraham Kiptalam Bureti (Roads, Transport, and Public Works),
- Felix Kimaru (ICT, Government, and Innovation),
- Marion Birgen (Education and Vocational Training),
- Nixon Cheplong (Livestock and Fisheries)
- Nahum Jelagat Tirop (Public Service Management).
Consequently, their temporary replacements were announced to ensure smooth operations.
To fill the gaps, Bii appointed Micah Kipkosgei Rogony as acting CEC for Devolution and Administration. Similarly, Nathan Korir was named acting Chief Officer for Trade, Investment, Industrialization, and Tourism, while Mark Some took over as acting Chief Officer for Youth and Sports.
Moreover, Ruth Samoei was appointed as the acting Chief Officer for Cooperatives and Enterprise Development.
Additionally, Geoffrey Kirwa Tanui will oversee Lands and Physical Planning, whereas Elphas Kesio will be in charge of Livestock and Fisheries in an acting capacity.
Apart from these changes, the governor also made new advisory appointments. Notably, he appointed Johnstone Kotut as his Economic Advisor, a move aimed at strengthening economic policies.
Furthermore, Pius Kiplimo Chumba replaced Nicholas Chepkwony as the new Chief of Staff, a role critical for coordinating county operations.
In the end, Governor Bii expressed confidence that these adjustments would lead to a more efficient administration.
By making these changes, he hoped to boost public trust, enhance accountability, and improve service delivery across the county.
