Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has spoken out against an alleged plan to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office.
He accused theKenya Kwanza government for targeting Koome because of her firm stand against impunity.
Speaking on Sunday, January 26, 2025, during a church service at PCEA Imenti North Presbytery in Meru County, Gachagua urged the government to abandon any attempts to oust the Chief Justice.
He described the move as a deliberate effort to silence voices that oppose the government and the Kenya Kwanza leaders.
Gachagua claimed there is a calculated plan to weaken Kenya’s institutions. He said the scheme started with his removal from office, followed by efforts to unseat Chief Justice Koome, and could end with dismantling the Judiciary.
According to Gachagua, this is all in preparation to rig the coming 2027 general elections.

“We have seen attempts to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome from office,” he said.
“They are trying to frustrate her so she can step down. I want to tell my sister Martha Koome not to give in to intimidation. Stay strong, continue doing the great work you have been doing for the Judiciary and the people of Kenya. Protecting the rule of law and the Constitution is crucial.”
International Community
Gachagua also called on the international community to monitor Kenya closely. He warned that the State has already taken control of the legislature and executive and is now moving to capture the judiciary.
He further, urged global observers to document these events to provide as evidence suppose things goes south in the coming elections
On the topic of Mount Kenya unity, Gachagua appealed to residents to stay united. He claimed that President Ruto’s efforts to divide the region had failed.
The former Deputy President attended the service alongside his wife, Dorcas, and several national leaders.
