Former Kajiado Woman Rep Janet Marania Teyiaa is dead

On the morning of Monday, April 7, 2025, Kenyans woke up to heartbreaking news. Former Kajiado County Woman Representative, Janet Marania Teyiaa, passed away.

She left behind a legacy of service, strength, and inspiration. Her sudden death shocked many across the country, including top political leaders and citizens who had admired her dedication over the years.

Not long after the sad announcement, President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua joined thousands of Kenyans in mourning the fallen leader.

Both leaders expressed their sorrow and paid glowing tribute to Teyiaa, describing her as a passionate, hardworking, and respected public servant who gave her all to the people of Kajiado County.

Later that same day, Rigathi Gachagua shared a heartfelt message on his social media platforms. He said he was deeply shocked and saddened to learn about her passing.

He fondly remembered serving with Janet in the 12th Parliament, where she stood out as a strong voice for the people of Kajiado.

According to Gachagua, Teyiaa worked with energy and commitment, always focused on improving lives in her community.

As he reflected on her life, Gachagua shared a touching story from Janet’s early years. He revealed that during her childhood, she lived with a disability and was once rescued by a social worker who saw her potential.

Disability is not inability

Despite the challenges she faced, Janet refused to be held back by her circumstances. Instead, she rose above them and became a symbol of hope and resilience.

Her journey proved that people living with disabilities can achieve greatness when given the right support and opportunities.

“She spoke boldly and acted fearlessly on behalf of those who could not speak for themselves,” Gachagua said. “She touched many lives, and her legacy will live on in our hearts. My deepest sympathies go to her family, the people of Kajiado, and all Kenyans mourning this great loss.

As messages of condolence continue to pour in from across the country, many people are remembering Janet Marania Teyiaa not just as a politician, but as a determined leader, a tireless advocate, and a shining example of what it means to rise above adversity.

May she rest in peace.
