President William Ruto announced that the government will begin building a dual carriageway linking Nairobi and Nakuru next year to ease traffic on the busy highway.
Speaking on Sunday at Kipkorgot AIC Church in Uasin Gishu, the President announced that the dual carriageway would eventually extend to Malaba, enhancing connectivity and facilitating trade along the vital corridor.
This announcement follows growing complaints from motorists, especially during the holiday season, when heavy traffic caused hours-long delays.
The highway, a critical link between the capital and western Kenya, has faced severe congestion, particularly during this holiday season, with motorists enduring hours-long delays.
Ruto further, highlighted the importance of easing travel and boosting trade along the corridor to support economic growth.
Economic progress
President Ruto also highlighted Kenya’s economic progress. He pointed to lower inflation, increased exports, and improved food security, crediting government subsidies for agricultural inputs.
These measures, he said, boosted local food production and eliminated the need for maize and sugar imports.
On healthcare, the President reaffirmed his commitment to rolling out a new health insurance plan, calling it a transformative initiative for the sector.
He further, expressed confidence in its success, emphasizing its long-term benefits for the people of Kenya.
Cattle vaccinations
Defending the government’s livestock vaccination program, President Ruto addressed concerns from critics.
He dismissed claims about vaccine safety and urged leaders to avoid politicizing economic issues. He assured that the vaccines, locally manufactured at Kabete—a leading African facility—are also exported to other countries.
The program, he added, will protect the livestock economy and demonstrate the government’s dedication to its implementation.
Commenting on his decision to include opposition leaders in his administration, the President said it was essential for national unity and stability.
He explained that lessons from past protests influenced this move, which aims to promote development and reduce divisions.
