A KCSE candidate at Sironga Girls High School in Nyamira County reportedly collapsed on Tuesday after an alleged beating and slapping by a Ministry of Education official.

Police reported that the student was taking her exam when Beatrice Kendi, a quality assurance officer, entered the classroom around 9 a.m. The officer suspected the student was chewing “unauthorized material.”

According to the police report,

“She moved closer and slapped the student several times, but did not recover any evidence to support her suspicion.”

After Kendi left, the student appeared restless, and just as the exam was about to conclude around 10 a.m., she collapsed.

The candidate was taken to the school dispensary, treated, and later discharged in a stable condition. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is currently investigating the incident.
