Woman loses life to snake bite during ritual “Prayers”

A family in Murende village, Matayos Constituency, Busia County, is mourning the tragic and sudden death woman who lost her life to snake bite during ritual “Prayers”

The woman, identified as Margaret Agutu, died after being bitten by a snake during a “prayer session” led by a witch doctor.

The said session was allegedly a ritual for their neighbor, involving occult practices and materials.

Margaret’s husband, Alloyce Ouma Okumu, and their daughter, Stella Athieno, shared details of the incident.

They said Margaret had gone to join other neighbors at the session. While there, a snake bit her on the finger.

She immediately tried to inform the witch doctor about the snake bite. However, he ignored her cries for help, dismissing her concerns.

As the pain worsened and Margaret’s condition deteriorated, the witch doctor realized the situation was serious.

He quickly grabbed the snake, placed it in a sack along with his mystical tools, and fled the scene. Margaret was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, she died on the way.

This incident has left the family and the entire community in shock and grief. The family is now calling on security officers to investigate the matter thoroughly.

They hope justice will be served for Margaret and the witch doctor will be held accountable for his actions.

The family has also appealed to well-wishers for financial assistance. They need support to cover Margaret’s burial costs, as her body is currently at the Busia Referral Hospital mortuary.

The loss has deeply affected not just the family but also the entire village, as they come to terms with the tragic events of that day.
