Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has affirmed that The Kenya Kwanza government will resolve the challenges faced in SHIF.
Kindiki has reassured Kenyans of the government’s commitment to ensuring the success of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), emphasizing that any challenges will be resolved.
The newly elected Deputy President was speaking at the First Nairobi Health Scientific Conference on Wednesday.
He acknowledged the challenges faced during the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the Social Health Authority (SHA).
He reiterated President William Ruto’s dedication to streamlining healthcare and making it accessible to all.
“The Kenya Kwanza health agenda is anchored on our national vision. We aim to reform institutions and ensure the new system reaches as many people as possible, making health and nutrition accessible and affordable for every Kenyan,” Kindiki said.
We will overcome the challenges
He dismissed skepticism, asserting that the SHA program would succeed despite challenges, saying,
“Those doubting a developing country’s ability to roll out a comprehensive health reform will witness its success because we have a clear vision for our people.”
Kindiki further highlighted the critical role of a robust healthcare system in driving Kenya’s economic growth and appealed to county governments to collaborate with the national government to achieve these reforms.
“A healthier population means a more productive workforce. While we face some hurdles in health reforms, this new system will work for the benefit of all citizens, ensuring health is not a privilege for a few,” he added.
The deputy president urged all stakeholders to support the initiative, emphasizing the collective responsibility to make quality healthcare a reality for all Kenyans.
