A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Friday in Gathunuka village, Nyeri County, when a raging fire tore through a family home, claiming the lives of two young children, aged just 3 and 6.
At the time of the fire, the children were reportedly alone in the house. Their parent had left earlier that day to go to work, unaware that disaster would strike in their absence.

When the parent returned home, they were met with a terrifying sight—the house had been completely engulfed in flames.
By the time emergency responders arrived at the scene, it was too late. The fire had already destroyed most of the house, leaving little that could be saved.
Although the firefighters acted quickly, their efforts could not undo the tragedy that had already occurred.
The lifeless bodies of the two children were recovered from the ruins and later transported to the Nyeri County Referral Hospital morgue.
What caused the fire
Meanwhile, local authorities have begun investigating to find out what might have caused the fire. So far, the exact cause of the blaze remains unknown.
However, officials are working hard to uncover any clues that could explain how such a devastating incident happened.
This incident has shocked the Gathunuka community and raised fresh concerns about fire safety, especially in homes where young children may be left unattended.
Many neighbors and residents are now calling for greater awareness and support for families to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
As investigations continue, the entire village mourns the heartbreaking loss of two innocent lives that ended far too soon.
