A police officer on duty at Kyuso Police Station in Kitui County tragically took his own life on Monday morning, December 2, 2024.

Constable Isaac Wesonga reportedly shot himself in the head shortly after being issued a firearm for his daily duties.

According to colleagues, Wesonga had just left the cell sentry office when he entered the report office and turned the gun on himself.

The bullet, which he, fired from under his chin, exited through his head, killing him instantly.

Authorities have moved his body to a local mortuary, where it awaits an autopsy. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding his death are underway.

Separate incident

In a separate incident in Thika, Kiambu County, another police officer was discovered dead inside his home.

Constable Samuel Chege, attached to the Railways Police Station in Thika, had reportedly been dead for some time before his body was found.

Police noted there were no visible injuries on the body. It has also been moved to a mortuary for an autopsy and further examination.

These tragic events follows yet another recent suicide incident involving another officer in Nyeri Town.

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, Constable George Kimiti Gichuki, serving as an armourer at the Administration Police Service offices, died after allegedly shooting himself.

He reportedly used an AK47 rifle, firing a shot into his chest. The bullet exited through his back, killing him on the spot.
