TIFA: Expect Raila to run in 2027 despite Broad-Based Deal.

A new survey by TIFA has shed light on how Kenyans feel about opposition leader Raila Odinga’s political future, especially as the 2027 general election approaches.

Since Raila joined forces with President William Ruto to form the broad-based government, many people have been left wondering about his next move.

Despite the uncertainty, most Kenyans still believe that Raila will be on the ballot in 2027, aligning with his norm.

According to the poll, released on Wednesday, 28% of those interviewed think Raila will return to the opposition and run for president once again.

Meanwhile, 23% of Kenyans believe he will support President Ruto’s re-election bid. On the other hand, 18% think he might endorse another opposition candidate, while 14% expect him to retire from politics altogether.

Interestingly, 16% of the respondents said they are not sure at the moment, what Raila’s next political step will be.

Political direction

Clearly, Raila’s decision will play a big role in shaping the country’s political direction in the coming years, especially as the nation heads into another major election.

His actions could either unite or further divide political forces, making his next move one of the most closely watched developments in Kenya’s political scene.

In addition to opinions on Raila’s future, the TIFA survey also looked into how Kenyans feel about the recently formed broad-based government.

The results show a divided public. While a majority—54%—oppose the agreement that brought together leaders from across political lines, only 22% support it. Meanwhile, 25% of respondents said they had no clear opinion about it.

Overall, the survey highlights a politically uncertain yet active landscape in Kenya, with Raila Odinga remaining a key figure whose decisions will influence the country’s political path ahead of the 2027 elections.
