Night vigils, popularly known as ‘Disco Matanga,’ and unnecessary parties are officially banned in Siaya County this festive season.
The directive aims to curb arising crime in the area, and safeguard vulnerable groups, especially school-age children.
Siaya County Commissioner Norbert Komora announced the ban, highlighting the dangers these events pose.
He described them as breeding grounds for criminal activities and immoral behavior. “Disco Matanga and other parties are affecting us.
Chiefs should remain vigilant this December. Those found violating the directive should be arrested,” Komora said.
The County Commissioner has ordered security personnel across Siaya to enforce the ban strictly. He stressed that anyone found hosting or attending these events will face legal consequences.
Parents to take responsibility too
Komora also called on parents to take responsibility for their children during the holiday season. He urged parents and guardians not to rely solely on chiefs and police to monitor children.
“Parents must be accountable. Ensure your children are safe and do not stray into harmful activities,” he added.

The ban comes amid growing concerns over rising cases of sexual and gender-based violence in the region.
Komora also condemned such incidents, including femicide, urging Siaya residents to be vigilant and look out for one another.
“We must work together to address these issues. Residents should be each other’s keepers,” he said.
The county administration remains firm on its stance. The focus is to create a safe environment for everyone during the holiday celebrations.
