Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei and Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba are now demanding the resignation of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
They believe he is not doing a good job and is unfit to lead the Interior Ministry, especially when it comes to handling the country’s security.
Their call came after the brutal killing of Reverend Father Allois Cheruiyot Bett. He served at St. Matthias Mulumba Tot Parish in Elgeyo Marakwet.

Insecurity getting worse each day
The two leaders pointed to this tragic incident as a sign that insecurity in the region is getting worse each day.
They reminded Kenyans that Murkomen himself used to raise similar concerns about insecurity in the Kerio Valley during President Uhuru Kenyatta’s time in office.
Senator Cherargei, in a strong message posted on X (formerly Twitter), wrote,
“Transferring incompetence to the Ministry of Interior is dangerous because you lose lives. This minister should be called out, he is embarrassing all of us who are in government. In fact, Murkomen must resign.”
He didn’t stop there. Cherargei added,
“Now he is in charge of security, but our people are still being slaughtered like goats. He is just incorrigible, incompetent, and lazy.”

Furthermore, the Senator accused CS Murkomen of trying to cover up the truth. He claimed that the Interior Ministry had told the National Police Service to report that Rev. Fr. Bett’s killing was not linked to banditry. However, Cherargei insisted that the murder was indeed the work of armed bandits.
“We will not allow him to tarnish the name of the priest, even in death,” the Senator declared.
According to Cherargei, the Kerio Valley has become a dangerous place over the last three days. Criminal gangs, he said, have been roaming freely and killing innocent Kenyans without fear.
“A Monkey cannot see their own bottom”
The criticism did not end there. Senator Cherargei also pointed fingers at Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale.
He reminded the public how both Murkomen and Duale had previously criticized the former government for failing to stop bandit attacks. Now that they are in office, he argued, the situation has not improved.
MP Gathoni Wamuchomba also voiced her concerns. She supported Cherargei’s call for Murkomen to resign.

“Murkomen should just resign and join the noise makers. He performed better there,” she said.
She also had a message for CS Duale. She told him to stay silent unless he was speaking about improving healthcare and ensuring health workers were properly hired and paid.
Growing dissatisfaction
Wamuchomba expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the Catholic priest. She called the murder “heartbreaking” and used the moment to highlight growing dissatisfaction with how the government is handling both security and healthcare issues.
In closing, she issued a warning:
“The 1 T spirit is in the air,” a phrase many believe hints at growing political tensions and possible unrest if the government does not act swiftly.
