Pregnant woman loses baby in cell after police arrest.

A family in Kinangop, Nyandarua County is crying out for justice after a heartbreaking miscarriage incident.

Their loved one, a young woman who was seven months pregnant, sadly lost her baby while being held at a local police station.

According to her sister, the woman had told the police about her pregnancy as soon as she was booked at the station. Despite this, the police allegedly ignored her complaints and requests for medical help.

The young woman had been arrested after her employer claimed that Ksh18,000 went missing from that day’s sales.

Her family, shocked by the arrest, rushed to the station and immediately started pleading with the officers.

I begged them to let my sister go as we tried to raise the money. It was on a Wednesday. I told them that her children were at home waiting for her and that we also had a sick mother who needed her. But they still refused,” said her sister, Wangui.

Later after follow up, it came to light that the actual missing amount was Ksh9,000—not Ksh18,000 as initially reported.

This new information gave the family and friends hope. They quickly mobilized and managed to raise Ksh6,000.

They promised to bring the remaining Ksh3,000 the next morning. Unfortunately, both the police and the employer refused to accept a partial payment. They demanded the full amount immediately.

Meanwhile, the woman was still in custody. During this time, she reportedly began experiencing strong abdominal pain.

She repeatedly asked for medical help. However, the officers on duty allegedly ignored her cries for assistance.

Then, at around 1 a.m., she called her sister in distress. She said she was bleeding and needed help right away.

Her sister rushed to the station, but when she arrived, the officers reportedly turned her away and refused to let her in.

Family members and other witnesses say the woman was left alone, suffering in pain for hours. No one gave her the medical care she desperately needed. Tragically, this led to her losing the baby.

“I came back early the next morning, hoping to see her and help,” Wangui said.

“But they still wouldn’t let me in. That’s when I found out she had suffered a miscarriage during the night and was still inside the police cell.”

This deeply painful incident has caused public outrage. Many people are demanding answers. As a result, Nyandarua Senator John Methu has stepped in.

He is now calling for a fast and thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice is served to the woman.
