Police seize bhang-filled vehicle abandoned in Narok East

Police in Narok East Sub-County have begun a manhunt for two suspects who escaped after abandoning a vehicle loaded with cannabis sativa (bhang).

The dramatic incident unfolded on the evening of July 1, 2025, during a high-speed chase on the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway.

Police Chase Suspected Drug Traffickers

The chase began when officers from Ntulele Police Station tried to stop a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado they believed was carrying illegal drugs from Kisii to Nairobi.

However, instead of complying with the police signal, the driver refused to stop and sped off, triggering a dangerous pursuit through the highway.

Vehicle Breaks Down, Suspects Flee

According to police, the chase ended when the Prado veered off the main road onto the Nairegie Enkare feeder road, where it developed mechanical issues and came to a halt.

At that point, two male suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into nearby maize plantations, disappearing before police could arrest them.

Three Sacks of Bhang Found in Vehicle

After securing the scene, officers searched the vehicle and made a significant discovery. Inside the car’s cargo area, they found three large sacks containing around 600 brooms of bhang, all carefully hidden in the rear compartment.

Police towed the vehicle to Ntulele Police Station, along with the seized drugs, for further investigation and documentation.

Police Praise Public Vigilance, Urge Support

In an official statement, the National Police Service (NPS) called the seizure a major breakthrough in disrupting illegal drug trade routes.

This seizure is a major step in our efforts to disrupt the supply chain of illegal drugs,” said the NPS.
We commend the public for their vigilance and encourage continued cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking.”

Police have asked anyone with information about the two suspects to report to the nearest station or reach out through anonymous tip lines
