A newborn baby, just one day old, was found alive after being buried in Kwa Nyunyi village, Makueni County.
The shocking discovery happened after concerned neighbors reported the incident to local the authorities.

Francis Kaluma, the assistant chief of the area, took immediate action after receiving the tip from concerned neighbors.
He quickly went to the family’s home and demanded to know where the baby had been buried by its family members.
The family had no choice but to dig up the grave. To everyone’s shock and disbelief, the baby was still alive.
“I was informed that a woman had given birth and then buried her baby alive,” Kaluma explained. “When I arrived, I asked the family to show me the burial site. When they dug up the spot, we were all stunned to see that the child was still breathing.”
The baby was rushed to Sultan Hamud Hospital as fast as possible so that doctors could provide emergency medical care.
Unfortunately, despite the medical team’s efforts, the infant did not survive. The baby died on Sunday morning due to injuries caused by the burial.
Illegal burial
Meanwhile, police officers arrested the baby’s mother and grandmother. They are now being held at Salama Police Station as they wait to be taken to court.
Authorities have confirmed that the two women will face charges related to the baby’s death and the illegal burial.
This heartbreaking incident has left the entire community in shock. Many people are now calling for stronger measures to prevent child neglect and abuse.
Local leaders and law enforcement officials have promised to ensure justice is served. They are also urging residents to report any suspicious cases that could put children at risk.
