Some leaders from Narok have now said they will not support the plan to build a new international airport on land that is reportedly connected to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This land is located near the famous Maasai Mara game reserve.
Speaking during a public event in Siana Ward, which is in Narok West Constituency, the leaders explained their reasons.

They said they want the airport to be constructed on public land within Narok County, not on private land owned by an individual. According to them, using public land would benefit local people more.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto is expected to officially launch the airport project at the end of this month. He will do this during his development tour of Narok.
At the same time, Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu is encouraging all local leaders to make good use of the President’s visit.
Make use of the President’s visit
He urged them to focus on development and ask for more government projects in their areas instead of engaging in political disagreements.
Governor Ntutu said, “When the President visits, we should stop politics and welcome development. There will be time for politics later. For now, we support President Ruto fully for ten years without interruption because we can already see the work he is doing here in Narok.”
In addition, Emurua Dikir Member of Parliament Johana Ng’eno agreed with the governor. He said Narok leaders will not allow the airport to be built on private land.
Ng’eno added, “We want the airport to be built on land that belongs to the people of Narok. If it is built here, it will create jobs for our youth and boost our local economy. We will not support any plan that benefits only a few individuals.”
In conclusion, the leaders made it clear that they want development, but only if it benefits the people directly and takes place on public land.
