“MP Koech “Mudavadi to Be Summoned Over Besigye’s Abduction”

Belgut Member of Parliament Nelson Koech announced that Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi would be summoned to explain the abduction of Uganda’s opposition leader, Kizza Besigye, in Nairobi.

The incident occurred on November 16 when Besigye was preparing to attend Martha Karua’s book launch.

Koech, who chairs the National Assembly Defence and Foreign Relations committee, stressed the need for clear answers, emphasizing the importance of a calm and factual approach to the issue.

Koech assured the public that Kenya remains a peaceful nation known for hosting visitors safely, even as concerns grow over recent abductions.

He acknowledged the rising distrust in security forces following a series of kidnappings, some resulting in fatalities. These incidents have raised serious questions about the integrity of Kenya’s security systems.

Besigye, after being abducted in Kenya, was reportedly taken to Uganda and charged with security-related offenses, including illegal possession of firearms.

The legislator reiterated that inviting Mudavadi, who is also the acting Interior CS, would help shed light on the incident .

Additionally, Mudavadi is to reaffirm Kenya’s commitment to upholding its reputation as a safe and welcoming country for foreigners.

Besigyes abduction

Besigye was detained in a Ugandan military facility until his release on Wednesday. The case has drawn attention to regional security and Kenya’s role in safeguarding both citizens and visitors.

Kizza Besigye, a prominent Ugandan opposition leader, was reportedly abducted in Nairobi on November 16, 2024.

He was in the city to attend Martha Karua’s book launch when unknown individuals allegedly kidnapped him.

Later, he was transported to Uganda and detained on charges related to illegal possession of firearms and security offenses.

The incident has sparked concerns over regional security and the integrity of Kenya’s security systems, as it coincides with rising cases of abductions in the country. Besigye was released from detention on Wednesday.
