Manchester City kicked off their FIFA Club World Cup Group G journey in style, defeating Moroccan side Wydad AC 2-0 in a hot and energy-draining match held in Philadelphia.
The English giants showed off their attacking strength early on and managed the game well from start to finish.

Foden Strikes Early
Right from the beginning, City looked sharp and dangerous. In just the second minute, Phil Foden opened the scoring.
The chance came when Wydad’s goalkeeper, Mehdi Benabid, failed to hold on to a cross from Savinho. Foden was alert and reacted instantly, smashing the ball into the net to give City an early lead.
This early goal set the tone for the game, and the Premier League champions continued to dominate possession and control the tempo.
Doku Doubles the Lead
As the first half neared its end, Jeremy Doku made sure City took a strong lead into the break.
He showed great awareness and positioning, arriving at the far post just in time to meet Foden’s well-taken corner. With a simple tap-in, Doku made it 2-0, further boosting City’s confidence.
The first half ended with City looking comfortable and in control, while Wydad struggled to get a foothold in the game.

Wydad’s Response and City’s Control

To their credit, Wydad AC did not give up. They created a moment of real danger when Cassius Mailula forced a good save from City goalkeeper Ederson.
However, this was one of the few clear chances they managed to create.
Meanwhile, City continued to threaten. Both Doku and Erling Haaland had chances to increase the lead, but Benabid redeemed himself with some solid saves, keeping the scoreline respectable.
Late Drama: Rico Lewis Sees Red
Late in the game, there was a surprising and controversial moment. Rico Lewis, one of City’s rising stars, was shown a red card.
Many felt the decision was harsh, but even being reduced to ten men didn’t affect City’s performance much. They held firm and saw out the win without much trouble.
Strong Start for the Champions
In the end, Manchester City secured all three points with ease. The early goals from Foden and Doku, combined with their solid defense and strong midfield control, ensured they began their Club World Cup campaign on the right foot.
With this victory, City have put themselves in a strong position to advance from Group G and will be full of confidence heading into their next match.
