KMTC Student Stabbed to Death by Girlfriend During Fight in Kitale

A tragic incident unfolded in the Huruma area of Kitale on Sunday, December 1, 2024, when a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student was fatally stabbed by his girlfriend during a fight.

The victim, 24-year-old Benedict Kiptoo, was a clinical medicine student at KMTC. Police reports indicate that the suspect fled the scene immediately after the attack, leaving neighbors and authorities in shock.

Neighbors recounted hearing a commotion from the house Kiptoo shared with his girlfriend. Concerned, they rushed to check and found him lying in a pool of blood, stabbed in the chest.

One neighbor, a doctor working at a nearby private clinic, attempted to provide first aid but could not stop the bleeding.

The neighbors quickly transported Kiptoo to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route to the medical facility.

Police who visited the crime scene recovered the weapon, a kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack.

Premature marital

Preliminary investigations reveal that the couple had been living together as lovers. According to witnesses, the argument started after Kiptoo allegedly returned home late, escalating into a fatal altercation.

Even so, Authorities have urged the suspect to surrender for questioning. Investigations into the case are ongoing, and police are searching for the woman.

Meanwhile, Kiptoo’s body has been taken to the Cherengany Hospital Mortuary for an autopsy. This tragic incident has left the community mourning the loss of a young life and raised concerns about violence in relationships.

This tragedy therefore, adds to the growing number of homicide cases in Kenya. Reports indicate a sharp rise in crimes of passion and domestic violence, many of which result in fatalities.

Experts and authorities are calling for increased awareness, counseling services, and interventions to address conflicts in relationships before they escalate into violence.

The nation continues to grapple with these alarming statistics, underscoring the need for urgent solutions to curb such senseless loss of life.
