Kakamega: Man kills his brother with an axe over Ugali

Police have started investigating a shocking incident where a man struck his brother with an axe, killing him instantly.

The violent attack happened in Seregeya, Likuyani constituency, Kakamega County, following an argument over ugali.

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, village elder Cleophas Barasa confirmed the tragic event. He explained that the two brothers, Michael Lukala and Reuben Lutabony, had been digging a borehole at a neighbor’s home when a fight suddenly erupted.

The village elder strongly condemned the attack. He further, urged residents to avoid violence and choose peaceful ways to resolve conflicts.

“It is heartbreaking that Michael lost his life in such a tragic way. I encourage all residents to handle disputes calmly and seek peaceful solutions,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Peter Lukala, the deceased’s brother, gave more details about the fight. He said that an argument started when the brothers saw ugali.

The dispute quickly escalated, and Reuben picked up an axe, striking Michael on the head. Michael died instantly from the fatal blow.

Mother tried separating her sons

At the same time, Esther Akwam, the grieving mother, shared her heartbreaking experience. She tried to separate her sons, but they pushed her aside before the fatal attack occurred. She expressed deep sorrow over losing her son in such a violent manner.

This tragic event comes just days after another shocking murder in Bomet County. A smokie vendor fatally stabbed a 20-year-old man, Brian Moi, after he failed to pay Ksh25 for a boiled egg in Mogogosiek Village.

Police reported that Moi lost his life over the minor dispute. His grieving family is now demanding justice. They believe that his death could have been prevented if peaceful conflict resolution had been prioritized.

Authorities continue to investigate both incidents, urging communities to embrace non-violent ways of settling disagreements to prevent such tragedies in the future.
