ICC issues arrest warrant for Israel PM Netanyahu ,Gallant

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas military commander Mohammed Deif.

The ICC’s pre-trial chamber dismissed Israel’s jurisdictional challenges and determined there were reasonable grounds to hold the three accountable.

Therefore responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Israel-Hamas conflict witnessed recently.

The charges stem from alleged actions during and after the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on southern Israel, which killed approximately 1,200 people and led to an Israeli military response that resulted in over 44,000 deaths in Gaza, according to local sources.

Netanyahu and Gallant face accusations of co-perpetrating crimes such as murder, persecution, and starvation as a method of warfare, as well as targeting civilians.

Deif is accused of responsibility for acts including murder, torture, and sexual violence. While Israel claims Deif was killed in an airstrike, the ICC has not confirmed his death.

The enforcement of these warrants relies on the ICC’s 124 member states, none of which include Israel or the United States.

Israeli leaders condemned the ICC’s decision, while some Palestinian officials welcomed it, calling for further accountability measures.
