House help arrested after stealing Ksh 2.2M from employer.

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 29-year-old house help, Fleviar Muhonja Anaya, who vanished with Ksh 2.2 million from her employer’s home in Nairobi.

After days of searching, officers tracked her down in Malava, Kakamega County, thanks to the combined efforts of detectives from the DCI Nairobi Regional Headquarters and their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau counterparts.

The shocking incident happened on March 16, 2025. That morning, everything seemed normal as the employer left Muhonja at home and went about her daily routine.

She had no idea that betrayal was brewing behind her back. A few hours later, an unexpected call from the security guard shattered the day’s normalcy.

The guard reported that Muhonja had been seen leaving the compound with a large carrier bag. When questioned, she confidently stated that she was delivering something on behalf of her employer.

This response immediately raised suspicion. The employer, knowing she had given no such instructions, quickly tried to call Muhonja, only to realize that her phone had been switched off.

House help had disappeared

Alarmed, she rushed back home. Panic turned into devastation when she discovered that the Ksh 2.2 million she had kept safely in her bedroom had disappeared—along with her house help.

Detectives launched an intensive investigation, and forensic leads eventually led them to Muhonja’s hideout in Malava, Kakamega County.

After her arrest, she was interrogated, where she later revealed where some of the stolen money was hidden.

Following her directions, detectives traveled to Kapsoi in Vihiga County, where they recovered Ksh 700,000 from her grandmother’s house.

The search didn’t stop there. The team then proceeded to her rural home in Kipkaren, Uasin Gishu County, where they found three chain links that had been purchased using the stolen money.

Determined to retrieve as much as possible, detectives followed another lead to Fuata Nyayo in Nairobi’s South B estate. There, they uncovered an additional Ksh 800,000 hidden in Muhonja’s rented house.

Currently, she is being held at Capitol Hill Police Station, where she is undergoing processing before being taken to court.

Investigations are still ongoing as authorities work to recover the remaining stolen cash and ensure justice is served.
