The Ministry of Sports, in partnership with the Kenya Academy of Sports, the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA), and the Ministry of Education, has launched a Nationwide Sports Talent Camp.
This program aims to nurture the next generation of sports stars and provide them with the tools to excel in their respective fields.
The camp will run from December 1 to December 15, 2024. It brings together 3,000 young athletes who were identified during school games competitions earlier in the year.
These participants, selected for their exceptional talent, will therefore, receive specialized training and mentorship across multiple sports disciplines.
The program will take place in four major towns: Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Eldoret. Training venues include notable institutions such as
- Shimo La Tewa High School,
- Khamisi High School,
- Mombasa Baptist High School in Mombasa;
- Hospital Hill High School,
- Parklands Arya Girls School,
- Lavington Secondary School in Nairobi;
- Kisumu Boys High School
- Kisumu Girls High School in Kisumu;
- Moi Girls High School
- Hill School Girls in Eldoret.
Monetizing sports
The initiative is part of the Ministry’s broader vision to promote sports as a viable career option and a tool for economic empowerment.
It also aligns with the efforts to monetize sports and position Kenya as a hub for world-class athletic talent.
Participants will therefore, benefit from advanced coaching and technical support led by seasoned experts in various sports fields.
These sessions are designed to sharpen their skills, enhance teamwork, and instill values like sportsmanship and discipline.
Additionally, the camp aims to open pathways for young athletes to access national and international platforms, giving them the exposure needed to compete at higher levels.
