Nineteen-year-old Mitchelle Kemunto, who earned an impressive B- in her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, tragically passed away just two days after completing the examinations.
Her untimely death, caused by epilepsy, has left her family and community in deep sorrow.
Kemunto’s mother, Vane Moraa, shared the heartbreaking story. She revealed that the family only learned about her outstanding results from the school principal two days after the official announcement.
“She was epileptic, but we managed her condition as she worked hard in her studies,” Moraa said.
Kemunto completed her exams on November 15. Moraa admitted she didn’t have the courage to check her daughter’s results at first.
“After two days, I finally called her school principal, who told me she had passed and scored a B-,” she added.

Despite living with epilepsy, Kemunto remained determined and focused on her education. Her resilience and dedication earned her admiration from teachers and classmates alike.
Her mother recalled, “Her whole life, she would say, ‘Mum, I want to be a doctor.’”

Her uncle described the family’s anguish as a double loss. The pride of receiving her excellent results was overshadowed by the grief of her untimely death.
“The pain feels fresh all over again because her results remind us of her dreams and potential,” he said.
While many families across the country are celebrating their children’s academic achievements and planning for bright futures, Kemunto’s family is grappling with both pride and heartache.
Her success stands as a testament to her determination, but it is also a painful reminder of dreams left unfulfilled.
