On Sunday night, a drunk police officer opened fire at the Gigiri police canteen in Nairobi’s Westlands area. His reckless actions led to the tragic death of one colleague and left another injured.
The officer, identified as Constable Limo Nahason, is believed to be a protection officer assigned to Parliament.

He fired shots at his fellow officers while inside the canteen’s bar. One of the victims, Constable Eric Munga from Runda police station, was shot in the chest.
The other officer, Corporal Philip Kae, who is attached to the Judiciary, suffered a gunshot wound in the lower abdomen.
A report filed at Gigiri police station just before midnight revealed that emergency responders rushed both victims to Aga Khan University Hospital.
Then officer was in stable condition
Sadly, doctors pronounced Munga dead upon arrival. Meanwhile, Kae was admitted for treatment. Fortunately, police later confirmed that he was in stable condition.
Authorities quickly responded to the incident and took the suspect into custody. During the arrest, they recovered a Jericho pistol, serial number 44332745, loaded with 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
According to the police report, this firearm is now being held as evidence and will undergo ballistic analysis.
Additionally, officers found a spent cartridge at the scene. While searching the suspect, they also discovered a Parliament access card inside his wallet.
As investigations continue, Munga’s body has been moved to Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
This shocking incident has raised concerns about the discipline and alcohol consumption among police officers.
Authorities are now looking into the events leading up to the shooting, hoping to understand what triggered this deadly attack.
