Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua had to leave quickly after chaos erupted during a burial service for the late Erastus Nduati in Limuru, Kiambu County.
The trouble began when former Limuru MP Peter Mwathi was addressing mourners. Mwathi criticized the government, accusing it of unfairly targeting Gachagua by removing his entire security detail.
He questioned why the government seemed determined to sideline Gachagua as Deputy President, even though he had been in office for less than two years.
During his speech, Mwathi praised Gachagua for his efforts while in office and reassured him that God would see him through the challenges.
Mwathi further, pointed out how unfair it was that Gachagua’s bodyguards and security had been withdrawn.
Chaos
As Mwathi was speaking, technical problems with the microphone made it difficult for him to continue with his speech.
Things got worse when a group of people, identified as goons, disrupted the event. They tore down the tents, damaged the setup, and caused panic among the mourners.
At the time of the disruption, Former second in command had not yet had time to address the gathering.
The chaos escalated very quickly. Some mourners tried to flee while others threw plastic chairs at the intruders.
Stones were hurled at the vehicle carrying Gachagua and his team, shattering its rear window. Despite the chaos, Gachagua managed to escape safely.
Unfortunately, several people were injured in the incident and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment. The event ended abruptly, leaving many shaken by the unexpected violence.
