Nairobi Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosiria recently faced a heated confrontation with a hawker in the Central Business District (CBD).
The tense exchange, captured on video, has since drawn widespread attention and mixed reactions among Kenyans
In the video, Mosiria and his team approached a female hawker, asking her to vacate her spot. However, the woman refused to comply and instead launched into a tirade of insults directed at Mosiria and his team.
“I have stayed here for years, and I’m not leaving,” the woman shouted defiantly. “Call those cars to come and pick me. Call Sakaja to come for me, tell him I am here to take me to Lang’ata. You call it hell; I call it home.”
She continued her rant, mocking Mosiria and challenging his authority. “My nose is facing downwards while yours is facing upwards. Do not threaten me with Sakaja. Call it home,” she added.
Despite the verbal attacks, Mosiria remained calm. Choosing not to engage further, he walked away with his team.
The woman’s shouting, however, attracted a crowd of onlookers who seemed captivated by the dramatic scene.
The incident sparked debates on social media. One user commented,
“Kiburi ni kama ya Man-U. Hii Kenya inahitaji uchizi tu kidogo kama madhee,” implying the country thrives on chaos. Another said, “Even if you are fearless, people should respect themselves and others.”
Crackdown on Food Premises in Nairobi
Meanwhile, Mosiria announced a countywide crackdown on food establishments to ensure compliance with public health regulations.
This decision followed a surprise inspection of a hotel on Mfangano Lane in the CBD, where Mosiria and his team found gross violations of safety standards.

The inspection further, revealed alarming disregard for hygiene and public safety, prompting Mosiria to take immediate action.
He emphasized that Nairobi County would not tolerate such negligence and warned business owners to adhere to the law or face closure.
This crackdown aims to protect the health and safety of Nairobi residents and visitors. Mosiria assured the public that his team would continue inspecting food premises to enforce strict adherence to health guidelines.
As the hawker incident and the food safety crackdown dominate discussions, residents are reminded of the challenges facing Nairobi’s leadership in balancing enforcement with addressing the root causes of non-compliance.
