Migori; KCSE candidate hospitalized after attack by boyfriend

An 18-year-old student who recently sat for this year’s KCSE exams is receiving treatment at Migori Level Four Hospital. She was attacked by her boyfriend, a bodaboda rider, in Suna East, Migori County.

The suspect, identified as David Odhiambo, is currently on the run. According to Ngege Sub-location Assistant Chief Celine Anyango, the assault left the young girl, Whitney, with injuries that required immediate medical care.

Police have since launched a manhunt for Odhiambo. They are optimistic about tracking him down and bringing him to justice soon.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear. However, members of the public are speculating that the girl may have tried to end her relationship with the suspect.

Investigators believe that more details will emerge once Whitney is stable and able to share her account of what happened.

Assistant Chief Anyango emphasized that the police are treating the matter with urgency. She added that it is essential to uncover the motive behind the attack and ensure justice for the survivor.

Risk relationships

Meanwhile, Anyango encouraged young people to prioritize their safety. She urged adolescents to avoid relationships that might expose them to Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

Relationships that involve risks, she noted, can lead to devastating outcomes especially for young adolescent girls.

Authorities are calling on the community to provide any information that might help locate the suspect. As the investigation continues, Whitney remains in hospital, where she is receiving treatment and care.

Gender based violence

Cases of Gender-Based Violence have been on the rise across the country, with many victims suffering in silence.

Authorities have urged communities to report incidents of abuse to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable.

Organizations advocating against GBV continue to stress the need for education and awareness programs targeting young people and vulnerable groups.

In addition, experts have highlighted the importance of counseling for survivors of violence. Many victims struggle with trauma, which can affect their mental health and overall well-being.

Efforts to support survivors should focus on both physical recovery and emotional healing to get them up on their feet.

Community leaders have also been asked to step up and play a role in protecting young people. This includes offering mentorship and creating safe spaces where adolescents can discuss challenges they face.

By doing so, society can help reduce cases of abuse and ensure young people grow up in safe environments.

As Whitney continues to recover, her story serves as a painful reminder of the dangers of unhealthy relationships.

Authorities remain committed to pursuing justice for her and holding the suspect accountable for his actions.
