Kalonzo “Uhuru and Ruto have no political alliance”

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka said on Sunday, December 15, 2024, that there is no political alliance between President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kalonzo spoke during a church service at AIPCA Gathage Church in Gatundu South constituency, Kiambu County.

The former vice president explained that he knows Uhuru well and does not believe the former president could work with the Kenya Kwanza government.

“I understand my brother Uhuru Kenyatta very well. In his statement, he did not mention anything about forming an alliance with the Kenya Kwanza government,” Kalonzo said.

Need for strong opposition

He added that Uhuru, after meeting Ruto, emphasized the need for a strong opposition.

“Uhuru said they discussed enhancing democracy in the country. He stressed that the opposition must perform its role without fear of intimidation,” Kalonzo added.

During the church service, Kalonzo also supported the idea of barring politicians from speaking during services.

“I fully agree with the church’s stand. I would even be happy if you said Kalonzo and his team will not speak here. People are tired of politicians using the altar to spread propaganda for selfish gains,” he said.

Church position in politics

Kalonzo further, pointed out that the Catholic and Anglican churches have already taken clear positions on this issue.

However, he urged the church to be more vocal in criticizing the government over issues like abductions, killings of youth, the high cost of living, and the problems with the SHA/SHIF healthcare system.

After the service, Kalonzo addressed a crowd at Gatundu market. He called for reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) before the end of the year.

“I do not meet Ruto at midnight! My only interest is sending him home as soon as possible. That’s why we need a new IEBC,” he declared.

Kalonzo’s remarks came a week after President Ruto visited former President Kenyatta at his family home in Gatundu on December 9, 2024.

During their meeting, the two leaders discussed national and regional matters. Ruto praised Kenyatta for ensuring a peaceful power transition after the 2022 elections.

He also appreciated the former president’s collaborative spirit, which he said continues to support Kenya’s development goals.
