COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has dismissed Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah’s 2027 presidential bid saying that President William Ruto will have won by 10 Am.
Atwoli however, urged Omtata to otherwise focus on alliances and financial preparedness in readiness for that election.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s JKLive, Atwoli advised Omtatah to unite Western Kenya leaders, including Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula, to strengthen his political base.
“Omtatah must bring the Western leadership together,” Atwoli said. He emphasized the need for consultations with key figures like Amos Wako and forming a caucus to assess his chances.
Atwoli warned against relying solely on research for political success.
Specific strategies
“You can conduct all the research you want, but politics mainly requires specific strategies,” he stated.
He stressed the importance of financial readiness, advising Omtatah to have a clear budget and avoid dependence on well-wishers.
“No one associates with a poor person in politics,” he added.
Even so Atwoli expressed confidence in President William Ruto’s re-election in 2027, citing his strategic political moves and regional support and his ability to overcome formidable opposition.
Reflecting on Ruto’s 2022 win, Atwoli said,
“Ruto defeated Raila Odinga, even with a sitting president supporting Raila. Don’t underestimate him. By 10 a.m. in 2027, Ruto will be president.”
Senator Omtatah has launched his campaign, forming a committee to gauge his popularity and develop strategies.

Despite Atwoli’s remarks, Omtatah remains optimistic, positioning himself as an alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration.
“My fight is to dislodge Ruto, and I am ready,” Omtatah said, urging Kenyans to support him.
Atwoli also dismissed Kalonzo Musyoka’s chances, stating,
“I told Kalonzo to take over from Raila, but the 2027 deal is already sealed.”
Omtata for President
Okiya Omtatah’s bid to challenge President William Ruto is gaining momentum. Recently, he launched a Presidential Exploration Committee.
The team, led by Mary Kathomi, includes strategists, activists, and legal experts. Their goal therefore, is to assess his popularity and craft strategies.
Meanwhile, Omtatah remains confident. He positions himself as a fresh alternative to Ruto’s leadership. Additionally, he accuses the Kenya Kwanza government of failing Kenyans.
Now, he is urging citizens to back his vision. With growing support, Omtatah vows to dislodge Ruto in 2027.
