Why DAP-K party is set to exit Azimio coalition.

The Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) has formally initiated the process to exit the Azimio la Umoja coalition.

This announcement was made by party leader Eugene Wamalwa during a national delegates meeting held in Webuye.

Wamalwa stated that DAP-K can no longer remain aligned with the coalition, as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), a key partner in Azimio, is now part of the government.

Azimio Coalition Principals

Wamalwa highlighted that DAP-K’s decision to exit Azimio aligns with its vision of becoming an independent force in Kenyan politics.

He also announced that the party plans to conduct grassroots elections nationwide to strengthen its structure and prepare for the future.

Additionally, DAP-K intends to field its own presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections, signaling a significant shift in its political strategy and aspirations.

This decision follows mounting pressure within the party to forge its own path, free from coalition agreements that could limit its influence and goals.

Wamalwa expressed confidence in DAP-K’s ability to establish a broad base of support independently, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the party’s core principles and objectives.
