“I returned home to find my twins had died and buried in public cemetery”

A Nakuru woman returned from working in Saudi Arabia only to face the heartbreaking discovery that her young twin children had died and been buried without her knowledge.

After months of separation to provide for her family, she was devastated to learn of their passing and the burial arrangements conducted in her absence.

Mary Mwihaki had left her twins with a neighbour after being kicked out by her in-laws and proceeded to Saudi Arabia to find them there daily bread.

The heartbroken mother shared that her twins had passed away from pneumonia during the night. Mwihaki was aware of their health condition when she left for the Gulf, acknowledging they were unwell but never imagining it would end in tragedy.

“They were sick, but I didn’t think it would lead to their death. I immediately asked her to show me their grave because I couldn’t believe it until I saw where they were buried,” Mwihaki recounted painfully.

She was told they had been laid to rest in Longonot, on uninhabited land.

The community has shown sympathy, highlighting the emotional and social challenges faced by many Kenyan women working abroad to support their loved ones.

This tragic incident raises concerns about communication and support systems for families separated due to work abroad, urging for greater transparency and assistance in family matters for overseas workers.
