Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has criticized Kenyans for their dissatisfaction with President William Ruto’s administration policies to boost the country’s economy.
In an extensive social media post, Kihika questioned why the public would criticize the president’s attempts to secure funding—whether locally or internationally—for major infrastructure projects.
She also expressed confusion over the public’s opposition to Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) agreements.
She highlighted that these deals are essential for engaging the private sector in financing multi-billion-shilling projects rather than depending solely on government funds.
Good people
“Ok good people, am sitting here wondering what Kenyans really want? You don’t want the President to borrow any more money (I get it and prefer he doesn’t too) but when we have willing investors for PPP’s then you are all up in arms? Then you also don’t want him to raise money internally – Finance Bill,” she wrote.
In agreement, Kenyans have indeed raised concerns over certain upcoming PPP deals, including the Adani-JKIA takeover and the KETRACO-Adani partnerships, citing their “opaque” nature, which undermines public trust in the government.
While highlighting several projects needed to be done in her county, Kihika questioned how the public expects the president to secure funding for them.
“But yet you want big things done!! When he comes to Nakuru County we want the dualling of the Rironi – Mau Summit Road, we want the Itaare dam completed, we want the Lanet Airport completed, we want our poor road networks upgraded where is he supposed to get this money from? He wasn’t a magician the last I checked. Wouldn’t it make more sense for PPP’s to handle some of these very expensive but very necessary infrastructural projects?” she inquired.
The governor believes Kenyans should allow the president time to work toward achieving the country’s fiscal stability and gives him time. Adding that they (Kenyans) should be more patriotic.
