Former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi has cautioned Deputy President nominee Kithure Kindiki, warning that he could face the same fate as impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua if he doesn’t secure a formal agreement with President William Ruto.
Speaking in Meru on Saturday, Linturi expressed regret over placing blind trust in Ruto and not entering into a political agreement with him, as other leaders had done.
Speaking in Meru on Saturday, Former CS for agriculture said,
“When you approach negotiations in an organized manner, you come out stronger, more secure, and less vulnerable to being targeted. Today, I regret that while others were negotiating through political parties and signing agreements, Gachagua and I chose to move forward without one because we believed in and trusted in Ruto”
Linturi stated that he and Gachagua’s biggest mistake was placing blind trust in Ruto, while other politicians formed political parties and entered into agreements with the current president.
Truthful
“This word ‘truthful’ has caused a lot of problems in this country and has seriously affected some of us for being honest. If you’re a truthful person, you’re condemned like a drug peddler. How long will we continue living in denial? We must decide whether to keep telling the truth or continue deceiving each other,” Linturi said.
He added that this lack of a formal agreement made it easy for him to be removed from the Cabinet and for Gachagua to be impeached by Parliament.
Linturi hinted at running for Meru Governor in the 2027 election, stating that he has always been a politician and is now without a job.
He was dismissed as Cabinet Secretary when Ruto reshuffled his cabinet following Gen Z protests against the unpopular Finance Bill 2024.
