The Ministry of Health has confirmed yet another Mpox case in the country, bringing the total to 14 cases country wide.
Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Deborah Barasa announced on Thursday that the latest case was detected in Uasin Gishu County.
The distribution of cases is as follows:
- Nakuru (2),
- Kajiado (2),
- Bungoma (2),
- Taita Taveta (1),
- Busia (1),
- Nairobi (1),
- Mombasa (1),
- Makueni (1),
- Kericho (1),
- Kilifi (1),
- Uasin Gishu (1).
Recoveries
CS Deborah Barasa reported that out of the 14 confirmed Mpox cases, eight patients have fully recovered, while five are still undergoing treatment.
She also confirmed that the death toll remains at one, which occurred on October 11, 2024. The patient had previously tested positive for Mpox and later recovered before passing away.
Barasa emphasized that contact tracing is a top priority. Of the 68 identified contacts, 61 have completed the mandatory 21-day follow-up, with three testing positive for Mpox.
At Points of Entry (POEs), 30,237 travelers were screened in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 1,362,657 travelers screened across 26 POEs since the outbreak began.
“The National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) is maintaining a rapid sample processing pace. So far, 244 samples have been tested, with 14 confirmed positive, 227 negative, and 3 currently being tested.” said Baraza
