After Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, he will lose significant benefits tied to his former position.
As a high-ranking government official, Gachagua would have been entitled to numerous perks, including a lifetime pension, security detail, and a state-provided official residence.
His salary amounting to approximately Ksh 1.22 million, allowances, and diplomatic privileges will also cease, cutting off a steady stream of income and influence.
One of the major losses is his access to a government pension, which typically includes a substantial monthly payment and medical coverage for life.
These benefits, designed to ensure the well-being of former high-ranking officials, will no longer be available to Gachagua, leaving him with fewer financial resources post-office.
Security wise and detail
Security-wise, he will lose his state-provided bodyguards and VIP protection, reducing the level of personal security he has enjoyed as Deputy President.
His security detail has already been pulled off in his Karen residency and at the hospital just after his impeachment was gazatted
Previously, Gachagua enjoyed protection from a large team of over 50 officers from the General Service Unit (GSU), including specialized units like the Recce Unit and the Presidential Guard.
This reduction reflects the protocol that follows a deputy president’s dismissal, aligning with the loss of privileges associated with the office
He will also forfeit the luxury of an official residence and state-funded vehicles that come with the position. Moreover, travel benefits such as first-class air travel and diplomatic passports will be rescinded.
Gachagua will also lose his role in shaping national policy. His access to high-level government meetings, influence over appointments, and decision-making within the government will vanish.
This loss of political power could significantly impact his future career prospects and influence within the political landscape.
In addition to financial and material losses, the impeachment tarnishes his political reputation. This also damages his standing within the Kenya Kwanza coalition and limit his ability to run for future political positions.
Furthermore, public perception could significantly shift, making it harder for him to regain trust and political capital.
Overall, Gachagua stands to lose not just the material perks of being Deputy President but also his position as a key player in Kenya’s political future.
