Virtual court session adjourn after kenyans started chanting “Adani Must Go”

A virtual court session discussing a case about the proposed 30-year deal for Adani Airport Holdings, an Indian firm, to take over operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) took an unexpected twist when Kenyans joined the proceedings to express their opinions.

The session descended into chaos as participants started chanting “Adani must go” after joining the live link.

This occurred after the active link was shared widely across social media platforms, prompting Kenyans to mobilize and join the session.

Adani’s Ksh.238 billion agreement to upgrade JKIA under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) has faced significant public criticism due to concerns about a lack of transparency.

To address the disruption, Justice Bahati Mwamuye stepped in and postponed the session to October 22, 2024.

“My apologies, counsel. This is one of the challenges we encounter, and unfortunately, we cannot prevent such disruptions. Let’s reconvene on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in open court,” Justice Mwamuye stated.

Digital activisism

The disruption highlights how social media has become a powerful tool for digital activism, with Kenyans using online platforms to rally support for improved governance.

This has contributed to the rise of the Gen Z movement, a force that has significantly influenced the nation’s political scene.
