The Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB) has directed Super Metro bus Sacco to immediately fire 269 of its drivers.
This major decision was made because the board found that many of these drivers did not meet the required qualifications to operate public service vehicles safely.

The ruling, which was issued on April 14, 2025, followed a detailed investigation into whether Super Metro was following the country’s road safety and transport licensing rules.
Strict conditions
Although the board decided not to go ahead with an earlier plan to suspend the Sacco’s entire operation, it still imposed very strict conditions to make sure safety standards are improved.
One of the key conditions in the ruling is that Super Metro must dismiss all drivers who are not properly qualified.
In addition, the Sacco must also present several of its vehicles for a complete and careful inspection to confirm they are roadworthy and safe for passengers.
This ruling comes at a time when there are growing concerns across the country about the safety of public transport and whether operators are truly following traffic laws.
More and more Kenyans have raised alarms over reckless driving, especially in Nairobi and its surrounding areas.
According to TLAB, some of the drivers currently working for Super Metro had broken traffic rules, with several cases involving speeding .
Other drivers are also failing to pass the retesting process that ensures drivers are still fit to be on the road.
Now, Super Metro has been ordered to make sure every single driver goes through proper retesting. Only those who pass and meet the required standards will be allowed to return to work.

Discipline and higher standards
Super Metro is widely recognized for having better discipline and higher standards than many other matatus in Nairobi.
However, this new development puts the Sacco under serious watch as authorities push for full compliance with transport rules and public safety guidelines.
The Sacco has also been instructed to bring in a number of its vehicles for detailed checks. These inspections will determine if the buses meet safety requirements before they are allowed to continue carrying passengers.
This ruling has already sparked heated public discussion. While many people have praised the board for taking bold action to improve road safety, others are worried.
Some fear that the decision could lead to major service disruptions and that the 269 affected drivers could lose their only source of income.
As Super Metro works to follow the board’s instructions, many commuters and industry observers are watching closely.
They want to see how one of Nairobi’s most trusted bus Saccos will handle this challenge while still keeping its services running smoothly throughout the city and its outskirts.
