Natembeya defiant: “I won’t be silenced for criticizing Ruto

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya says some unnamed individuals are constantly targeting him because he has openly criticized President William Ruto’s government.

During a radio interview on Sulwe FM on Tuesday, Natembeya claimed that these people are closely linked to the President himself.

According to him, this group has been following him around just because he refuses to praise Ruto or his administration.

He expressed his frustration by saying,

“If I have done something wrong, why can’t they just confront me directly? Why keep trailing me as if I don’t have any rights? It’s like they believe anyone who doesn’t praise the President must be treated like an enemy. But I will never accept that.”

Furthermore, the governor insisted that he has the freedom to speak his mind. He added,

“This is my mouth, and I have the right to use it. As long as ordinary Kenyans continue to suffer, I will keep talking about their problems. I won’t stop.”

In addition, Natembeya made it clear that he will not let fear silence him. He said

“We are born once and we die once. So why should we live our lives in fear? That’s no way to live.”

Even more boldly, he claimed,

“I know the President might send people to kill me, but honestly, I’m not afraid. I will keep speaking out. Our intentions are good, and if those in power truly care, they will pay attention to what we are saying.”

Fear of criticism

Over time, Natembeya has criticized the Ruto government for many things, including the state of healthcare.

These statements have angered many of the President’s loyal supporters. Some of them have even accused Natembeya of trying to divide people along ethnic lines in Western Kenya.

For instance, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has publicly called for Natembeya to be impeached. On the other hand, some politicians have shown support for him.

One of them is former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was impeached in October last year. Gachagua has spoken in favor of Natembeya, praising his courage.

Moreover, Natembeya has faced real danger. His convoy has been attacked several times in recent months. These incidents have raised concerns about his safety.

Since the general elections in 2022, Natembeya has also been locked in a fierce political rivalry with National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. The two leaders are battling for control and influence over politics in Western Kenya.

In short, Natembeya continues to speak out, even as pressure and threats grow. He remains firm in his stance, vowing to stand by the people and fight for what he believes is right.
