Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly denied President William Ruto’s claims that his impeachment was due to internal conflicts with State House officials and Kenya Kwanza MPs.
In a statement shared on his X account on Monday, March 31, 2025, Gachagua also dismissed allegations that he demanded Ksh 10 billion to maintain Ruto’s political support in the Mt. Kenya region.
He further, criticized the President for misleading the public and failing to coordinate his team’s statements.

“The biggest threat to our country is the habit of lying to Kenyans without hesitation and a leader’s inability to align his team to ensure consistency in their statements,” Gachagua wrote.
His response came shortly after President Ruto spoke at Sagana State Lodge during an interview with vernacular radio stations.
Incompetent Gachagua
During the interview, Ruto explained that tensions arose shortly after taking office because Gachagua frequently clashed with key figures in government.
He named individuals like Dennis Itumbi, MPs Ndindi Nyoro, and Kimani Ichung’wah as some of those who had issues with Gachagua.
“I asked him, ‘Why are you fighting with Itumbi, my PA Farouk, and these young leaders? Why engage in unnecessary conflicts?’” Ruto said during the interview.
According to Ruto, Gachagua’s confrontational approach created friction with Members of Parliament, which eventually led to his impeachment.
“The MPs were warned that if they did not submit to him, they would lose their seats. So, before they could be pushed out, they decided to act first,” Ruto explained.
The President insisted that he played no role in Gachagua’s removal. He emphasized that the impeachment process followed the law and that he never signed any documents to remove him.
I didn’t authorize his removal
“I did not authorize his removal. The law took its course, and those responsible acted within their legal rights,” Ruto stated.
Additionally, Ruto claimed that Gachagua attempted to pressure him for Ksh 10 billion, allegedly to secure his political support in the Mt. Kenya region.

“I was told, ‘I can make you a one-term president unless you give me Ksh 10 billion to manage politics in the region.’ I refused. If I am meant to serve only one term, then so be it,” Ruto revealed.
At the same time, Ruto dismissed concerns about political tensions ahead of his planned visit to the Mt. Kenya region, which is set to begin on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
The president strongly, assured the public that the tour was meant to update voters on his administration’s progress.
“I am here because Kenyans, including those from Central Kenya, elected me. Starting tomorrow, the people will see for themselves whether I have delivered on my promises,” Ruto declared.
The ongoing political battle between Ruto and Gachagua has sparked heated debates, with Kenyans closely watching how the situation unfolds.
