The people of Machakos County are deeply concerned about the sudden and mysterious disappearance of Muthwani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Dominic Maitha.
According to his colleagues, Maitha has been missing for more than 24 hours, and his whereabouts remain unknown. This alarming situation has raised serious questions about his safety.
Speaking outside the Machakos County Assembly, Kinanie MCA Francis Kavyu and Mbiuni MCA Peter Kilonzo called on those responsible for Maitha’s disappearance to release him immediately.
They expressed fear that his abduction might be linked to recent political tensions.
Accusations Against the County Government
The two MCAs directly accused the county government and Governor Wavinya Ndeti of playing a role in Maitha’s disappearance.

They claimed that this incident followed Maitha’s recent declaration that he would table an impeachment motion against the governor.
“We want the public to know that our colleague, Dominic Maitha, has gone missing since yesterday. No one has been able to reach him, and his two phones are off. Just last week, he spoke openly about initiating an impeachment motion against Governor Ndeti. Now, he is nowhere to be found,” Kavyu said.
He further stated,
“We have tried calling him repeatedly, but we have no leads. We urge security agencies and the public to help us locate him. The county government must come clean about what they know regarding his disappearance. Political tensions have been rising, especially after the controversy surrounding the Speaker’s impeachment.”
Political Tensions and Allegations
Maitha’s disappearance comes at a time when political divisions within the Machakos County Assembly are growing.
Recently, about 30 MCAs reportedly traveled to Mombasa to strategize for an impeachment vote against Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya, which is scheduled for Friday.
Before he went missing, Maitha had openly criticized Governor Ndeti. During a bursary issuance event in Ngalalya, he publicly announced his plans to push for her impeachment.
He accused her of misusing county funds, engaging in illegal hiring practices, and bribing MCAs to support the Speaker’s ousting.
“You have refused to listen. You have disrespected us. Now that you want to remove the Speaker, I am saying it again—I will bring an impeachment motion against you next week,” Maitha declared.
Additionally, he added,
“You can use stolen money to bribe MCAs, but let me tell you, the Speaker is going nowhere. We have enough proof that Governor Wavinya has failed to lead Machakos County properly. Her only job is to steal!”
Impeachment Threats and Financial Mismanagement Claims
Maitha compared Governor Ndeti’s situation to that of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, who was impeached after clashing with MCAs.
“You are not special,” he warned. “Governor Kawira ignored her MCAs, and now she is at home. If you don’t change, we will remove you too because you are not helping the people.”
He also raised concerns about the misuse of county revenue, particularly money collected from quarries in Muthwani Ward.
“Every day, we collect around Ksh.5 million from the quarries. That’s Ksh.150 million a month and over Ksh.1 billion a year, not even counting the funds from the national government. Yet, what do we have to show for it?”
Maitha further criticized the controversial Machakos Youth Service project, which he claimed was illegally allocated Ksh.800 million.
He insisted that the governor must be brought to book and held accountable for such financial mismanagement.
Urgent Appeal for Answers
As tensions continue to rise, MCAs and residents are demanding answers. They want security agencies to investigate and ensure Maitha’s safe return.
The mystery surrounding his disappearance has left the entire county on edge, and people are eager to find out the truth about what happened to him.
The public now waits anxiously, hoping that Maitha will be found safe and that justice will be served. Until then, the political turmoil in Machakos County is far from over.
