Early on the morning of March 8, a group of armed young men attacked women who were celebrating International Women’s Day in the Yayani area of Mavoko, Machakos County.
The women had just started their procession to mark the special occasion when the attackers suddenly disrupted their gathering.

According to witnesses, the men carried pangas and clubs, and they ambushed the group around 9 a.m., sparking a violent confrontation.
Machakos County Police Commander Patrick Lobolia confirmed the attack, stating that four people suffered injuries during the chaos.
Emergency responders quickly responded and transported the wounded individuals to Shalom Hospital for treatment.
Police officers from Athi River Police Station rushed to the scene and worked hard to restore order, eventually managing to calm the tense situation.
Authorities have since launched investigations, and early findings suggest that a long-standing land dispute between two rival factions in the area may have fueled the attack.
