MP Kaluma calls for immediate ban of male circumcision

Member of Parliament (MP) George Kaluma has strongly called for an immediate stop to all forms of genital mutilation in Kenya.

He emphasized the urgent need to protect the dignity, health, and well-being of young people across the country.

On Tuesday, March 4, 2025, MP George Kaluma shared his concerns in a statement on his official X account.

He expressed deep worry over the increasing cases of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), teenage pregnancies, and early marriages, especially in communities where male circumcision is commonly practiced.

He further questioned why communities that practice male circumcision insist on subjecting their daughters to the painful and harmful tradition of FGM.

He challenged the logic behind this, asking, “If FGM is truly beneficial, why do men from these communities seek relationships with women from cultures that do not practice it?”

Kaluma also pointed out the global perspective on circumcision. He noted that only a small percentage of people worldwide follow this practice.

“Around the world, only about 10% of individuals undergo circumcision,” he explained. “It is time we rethink these outdated traditions and put an end to all forms of genital mutilation once and for all.”

Through his strong statement, Kaluma urged both the government and local communities to take firm action to eliminate these harmful practices and safeguard the rights of future generations.
