Bomet man sentenced to 150 years for killing his 3 children

A 40-year-old man, Benard Kipkemoi Kirui, has been sentenced to 150 years in prison after being found guilty of murdering his three children in 2019 in Lelaitich, Bomet County.

On Monday, Bomet High Court Judge Justice Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar handed down the sentence, ruling that each murder charge would carry 50 years, served consecutively.

Kirui was convicted of killing his three sons—Amos Kipngetich (12), Vincent Kiprotich (8), and Emanuel Kipronoh (5)—while their mother, Sharon Cherono, was away from home.

Justice Ng’arng’ar condemned the crime, calling it “heinous and inhuman.” He emphasized that the harsh sentence should serve as a warning to anyone contemplating a similar act.

Despite the ruling, Kirui has 14 days to appeal the sentence.

Cherono, the children’s mother, welcomed the verdict and expressed gratitude to the court for delivering justice.

Rising cases on GBV

She also called for stronger measures to protect children from rising cases of gender-based violence (GBV).

In recent years, there has been growing concern over the increasing number of children falling victim to domestic violence, often at the hands of those meant to protect them.

Many have urged authorities to enforce stricter laws and create more awareness to prevent such tragedies.
